Browse allHow to change GBWhatsApp’s app icon without third-party launcher
GBWhatsApp includes appearance controls that can change several parts of the app, including the launcher icon shown on your Android home screen and app drawer. This built-in option is useful when you want a different visual style without installing Nova Launcher, Microsoft Launcher, or another home-screen replacement.
The exact wording and position of the setting can vary between GBWhatsApp releases. Older builds may place it under “Universal,” while newer versions can group it with home-screen or interface preferences. The general process remains similar: open the mod settings, choose an available icon, apply the change, and restart the app if necessary.
Changing the icon affects the shortcut appearance, not your chats, media, account number, or notification settings. Still, create a recent WhatsApp backup before making major changes, particularly if you are also updating the APK or switching between mod versions.
Find the built-in icon setting
Open GBWhatsApp and tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner. Select “GB Settings” or “GBWhatsApp Settings,” depending on the version installed. This separate settings area contains customization controls that are not available in the official WhatsApp application.
Look for a menu named “Universal,” “Home Screen,” “Main Screen,” or “Styles.” Inside that area, search for “Launcher Icon,” “App Icon,” or a similar appearance option. GBWhatsApp versions do not always use identical labels, so scrolling through the interface settings may be necessary.
If you cannot find the option, use the settings search field when one is available. Search for terms such as “icon,” “launcher,” or “style.” Some releases remove certain features temporarily, meaning the setting may be unavailable in that particular build.
Select and apply a new icon
Tap the launcher icon option to display the designs bundled with your GBWhatsApp installation. Depending on the APK version, you may see WhatsApp-inspired symbols, colored variations, or simplified icons. These choices are built into the mod and do not require a separate icon pack.
Choose an icon, then tap “Apply,” “Save,” or “OK.” Some builds apply the selection immediately, while others ask you to restart GBWhatsApp. Close the app completely from the recent-apps screen and open it again if the old icon remains visible.
The home screen may continue showing the previous image because Android stores shortcut and launcher data temporarily. Wait a few seconds, open the app drawer, or restart the phone to refresh the display. The icon inside the app settings can change before the home-screen shortcut updates.
What changes and what stays the same
The setting generally changes the GBWhatsApp launcher graphic and sometimes the icon shown in Android’s application list. It does not alter your profile photo, chat wallpaper, contact avatars, notification badges, or the colors used inside conversations.
Your selected icon is tied to the installed GBWhatsApp package. If you uninstall the app, clear its data, install a different package name, or replace the APK with a release that uses another customization system, the choice may disappear.
GBWhatsApp feature menus can also change between releases. For broader version tracking and historical mod listings, the site’s mod release archive can help you compare available families and coverage before changing your installation.
| Situation | Likely result | Recommended action |
|---|---|---|
| Icon changes immediately | The setting was applied successfully | Return to the home screen and check the shortcut |
| Icon changes inside GBWhatsApp only | The launcher has cached the old image | Restart the launcher or reboot Android |
| No icon option appears | The installed build may not include the feature | Check another supported release or its settings layout |
| Icon returns after an update | The update reset customization preferences | Select the preferred icon again |
| Several WhatsApp icons appear | Multiple packages or shortcuts are installed | Identify the active GBWhatsApp package before deleting anything |
Refresh Android when the old icon remains
When Android keeps displaying the previous icon, remove only the old home-screen shortcut and create a fresh one from the app drawer. This does not uninstall GBWhatsApp or erase conversations. Avoid clearing GBWhatsApp’s storage unless you have a verified backup, because “Clear data” can remove local account information.
A launcher cache can also delay the update. Restarting the phone is the simplest solution, but some Android skins offer a separate “Restart launcher” option. On Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and similar devices, the relevant cache controls may be located under the system launcher’s app information page.
Do not confuse a stale shortcut with a failed icon change. Open the full app drawer and check whether the new graphic appears there. If it does, the GBWhatsApp setting worked and only the home-screen shortcut needs refreshing.
Fix missing or reset icon options
A missing icon menu may result from using an outdated, modified, or incompatible GBWhatsApp build. First, review the available appearance categories and restart the app. If the setting is still absent, the developer may have moved it or removed it in that release.
Updating can restore the feature, but replacing an APK always carries a risk of lost local data or installation conflicts. Back up chats, note your current package name, and use a compatible update path. Installing a second build over the wrong package can produce signature errors or leave duplicate shortcuts.
Other mod families use similar visual controls but different names. For example, privacy and media options may be organized differently in DELTA YOWA’s gallery guide, so instructions for one variant should not be copied blindly to another.
Keep customization stable after updates
Before installing a new GBWhatsApp version, record the icon style you selected and export any important settings if the mod provides that option. Updates can reset interface preferences even when chats remain intact. Keeping a note of the selected design makes restoration quick.
Avoid using Android’s generic shortcut editors when the goal is a native GBWhatsApp icon change. Those tools can create a visual shortcut overlay rather than modifying the application’s own icon, and some may add unwanted badges or extra shortcut entries.
GBWhatsApp also receives interface features that may sit alongside icon controls. If you are exploring the broader customization system, the guide to video speed controls shows how version-specific settings can be organized inside the mod menu.
Practical checks before you apply
Use these simple checks to prevent confusion during the change:
- Confirm that you opened GB Settings rather than standard Android settings.
- Check the app drawer after applying the icon, not only the home screen.
- Restart GBWhatsApp before assuming the setting failed.
- Keep a current chat backup before updating or reinstalling the APK.
- Record your preferred icon before moving to another GBWhatsApp release.
Once the new graphic appears in the app drawer and on the refreshed home-screen shortcut, the change is complete. You can return to the same launcher-icon menu whenever you want to test another built-in design, while keeping the rest of your GBWhatsApp layout and conversations unchanged.
