GBWhatsApp gives Android users more control over visibility than the official WhatsApp app. Depending on the build, you may be able to hide your online indicator from selected people while remaining visible to friends, family or work contacts.
The exact menu names can vary between GBWhatsApp releases. A privacy option available in one APK may be moved, renamed or removed in another, so checking the installed version is an important first step.
This setting is useful when you want fewer interruptions without appearing offline to everyone. Someone in Sydney might want to stay visible to family while avoiding work messages after hours, while a Melbourne student may prefer privacy from a particular group of contacts.
Before changing anything, back up important chats and use a trusted release source such as WhatsApp Mods. Modified APKs are unofficial, and privacy controls can behave differently from the standard WhatsApp application.
| Privacy choice | Who can see you online | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Everyone | All WhatsApp contacts and permitted users | Maximum visibility |
| Same as last seen | The people allowed to view your last seen | Balanced privacy |
| Selected-contact exclusion | Everyone except chosen contacts, where supported | Targeted privacy |
| Hide online status globally | Nobody, or almost nobody depending on the build | Complete quiet time |
Check Your GBWhatsApp Build
Open GBWhatsApp and tap the three-dot menu. Go to GB Settings, Privacy and Security, or a similarly named privacy area. The wording depends on whether you are using a recent GBWhatsApp release or an older package.
Look for options such as Hide Online Status, Online Privacy, Last Seen, Contacts Privacy, or Exceptions. If the menu only presents a global switch, your build may not support contact-level online visibility. In that case, updating to a reputable compatible release may expose additional controls, but an update should never be installed over an unverified APK.
Set an Online Exception
If your version supports individual exclusions, open Privacy and Security, then select Online Status or Hide Online Status. Choose an option such as My Contacts Except…, Selected Contacts, or Hide Online From. Select the people who should not see your online indicator, then save the setting.
Some GBWhatsApp editions place the control inside a contact’s profile. Open the chat, tap the person’s name, choose a privacy or visibility icon, and check for Hide Online Status for This Contact. This route is convenient, but it is not present in every mod family or release.
The selected contact may still see an older last-seen timestamp if that feature remains enabled. Online presence and last-seen information are related, but they are often controlled by separate switches, so check both settings rather than assuming one change covers everything.
Match Last Seen Privacy
For more consistent results, return to the privacy menu and open Last Seen. Select My Contacts Except… and add the same people you excluded from online visibility. If your build offers Same as Last Seen for online status, enable it after configuring the exceptions.
This approach is usually more predictable than relying on a mod-specific shortcut. It can also reduce the chance that a contact sees your last-seen time while being unable to see your live online indicator. Read receipts, typing indicators and recording indicators remain separate features.
If you use GBWhatsApp alongside an official WhatsApp account, check which package you are editing. Dual-account users in Brisbane or Perth often install separate numbers in different apps, and changing privacy settings in one package does not automatically affect the other.
Keep Read And Typing Signals Private
Hiding your online status does not automatically hide blue ticks. To prevent selected people from knowing when a message has been read, open Privacy and Security and review Blue Ticks, Second Ticks, or Read Receipts. Some versions provide contact-specific controls, while others apply the setting to every chat.
Typing and recording indicators may have their own switches, commonly labelled Hide Typing Status or Hide Recording Status. Use these carefully: hiding your own indicators does not always prevent you from seeing other people’s activity, and some builds apply the setting globally rather than to a single contact.
Test The Setting Properly
After saving the exception, close GBWhatsApp completely and reopen it. Ask a trusted contact to check your status, or test from a second number. Remain in a chat for several minutes, leave the app, and compare what appears before and after the change.
If the contact still sees you online, clear the app cache rather than deleting app data. Android menus differ between Samsung, Google Pixel and other phones sold through the Australian market, but the usual path is Settings > Apps > GBWhatsApp > Storage > Clear Cache.
Remember that status visibility can be delayed by background activity, linked sessions or an unstable connection. A brief online appearance does not always mean the privacy control has failed, especially when the app is synchronising messages.
Troubleshoot Privacy And Account Risks
A missing contact-specific option may indicate an older build, a cloned package or a feature that was removed during a redesign. Confirm that the selected contact is saved correctly, reapply the exclusion and verify that the online setting is linked to the intended last-seen choice.
Unofficial WhatsApp clients also carry account and security risks. WhatsApp may restrict accounts using modified applications, and a download containing altered code could expose chats or login details. Review current anti-ban information, such as this anti-ban guide, but treat anti-ban claims as guidance rather than a guarantee.
Avoid restoring sensitive backups into an APK obtained from a random file-sharing page. Australian users should also be cautious with APK sites that imitate local retailers or show misleading “official” download buttons. Scan files, check permissions and keep a copy of important media outside the app.
Privacy Settings Worth Reviewing
Use these checks when configuring GBWhatsApp for selective online privacy:
- Set Online Status to the most restrictive contact option available.
- Match the same exclusions under Last Seen.
- Review blue ticks, typing indicators and recording indicators separately.
- Test the result from another WhatsApp number.
- Keep GBWhatsApp updated only from a source you trust.
- Back up chats before changing packages or reinstalling.
- Avoid granting unnecessary access to contacts, files, SMS or accessibility services.
Selective visibility works best when every related privacy signal is reviewed together. A contact who cannot see your online indicator may still infer activity from instant blue ticks, typing notices or a newly updated last-seen time.
Configure the exception, test it with a trusted account and monitor the behaviour after each GBWhatsApp update. This gives you more control over quiet hours while preserving ordinary conversations with the people you still want to reach.
