Browse allHow to install FMWhatsApp without uninstalling official WhatsApp
FMWhatsApp is an unofficial modified WhatsApp client designed for Android users who want extra privacy controls, themes, scheduling tools, and interface customization. Many people already use the official WhatsApp application and want to test FMWhatsApp without removing their primary account or losing access to standard features.
The key to keeping both apps installed is using a separate package identity. A compatible FMWhatsApp APK normally installs as a parallel application rather than replacing WhatsApp Messenger. However, package names, Android versions, APK sources, and device security settings can affect whether the two clients coexist correctly.
A careful setup also protects your chats and account data. Create a current backup, download a reputable build, check the permissions requested by the installer, and avoid modified files that contain suspicious additions. The process is straightforward when these details are handled before installation.
Check whether both apps can coexist
Official WhatsApp and FMWhatsApp can usually run together when the mod uses a different application package name. In that arrangement, Android treats them as separate apps, allowing each one to have its own storage area, settings, and registered phone number.
Some FMWhatsApp packages are designed as clones, while others use a package identity that may conflict with the official client. If Android reports that the application already exists, the APK may be replacing WhatsApp instead of installing beside it. Do not continue by uninstalling the official app unless you have a verified backup and intentionally want to migrate.
Using separate phone numbers is the cleanest arrangement. The official app can remain connected to your main number, while FMWhatsApp uses a second SIM, eSIM, or another number that can receive an SMS or voice verification code.
Prepare your chats and device
Before installing any unofficial WhatsApp variant, open the official app and create a fresh Google Drive or local backup. Go to WhatsApp settings, open Chats, select Chat backup, and run a manual backup. Also check that important photos, videos, documents, and voice notes are stored somewhere outside the app.
A backup made by official WhatsApp may not restore perfectly inside FMWhatsApp because modified clients can use different package paths or database handling. Treat the backup as protection for the official installation, not as a guaranteed migration method. Avoid deleting the original app until the new setup has been tested.
Free several hundred megabytes of storage, update Android if an update is available, and charge the device before beginning. A failed installation caused by low storage or an interrupted package extraction can leave incomplete files and create unnecessary troubleshooting.
Download a compatible APK
Choose an FMWhatsApp release that matches your Android version and device architecture. Release notes can identify supported Android versions, known bugs, package variants, anti-ban changes, and whether the build is intended to coexist with official WhatsApp. Historical release information is also useful when a newly published version has unresolved problems.
For broader information about modified WhatsApp families, including version notes and installation resources, review the mod release listings. Download only from a source you trust, compare the file name and version with the published release details, and avoid APKs distributed through shortened links, pop-up pages, or unsolicited messages.
Before opening the file, scan it with Android security tools and, where possible, compare its checksum with a trusted release record. No unofficial mod can provide the same assurance as an app distributed through Google Play, so users should understand the privacy and account risks before proceeding.
Enable installation from the right source
Android may block the APK with a message saying that installation from unknown sources is not allowed. This permission is granted to the specific app opening the file, such as Chrome, a file manager, or a download utility. On recent Android versions, open Settings, search for “Install unknown apps,” select the relevant source, and enable permission temporarily.
After the APK is installed, return to that setting and disable the permission again. Leaving it active gives that source a broader ability to install additional packages. Keep Google Play Protect enabled and read every warning rather than dismissing it automatically.
If Android identifies a signature conflict, stop the process. That message usually means the package is trying to occupy the same identity as an installed WhatsApp variant. Installing random replacement files can cause lost data, duplicate notification services, or an account logout from the official app.
| Checkpoint | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Backup | Recent local or cloud copy | Protects chats and media |
| Package identity | FMWhatsApp is a clone or parallel build | Prevents replacement of official WhatsApp |
| Phone number | A separate number is available | Allows both accounts to stay active |
| APK source | Release details and file integrity | Reduces the risk of tampered files |
| Android permission | Unknown-source access is temporary | Limits unnecessary installation access |
Install and verify the second app
Locate the downloaded FMWhatsApp APK in the device’s Downloads folder and tap it to begin installation. Confirm the package name shown by Android, then review the requested permissions. A messaging app may need access to contacts, notifications, media, microphone, and camera, but permissions should be granted based on how you intend to use the application.
Once installation finishes, open FMWhatsApp from the new icon rather than from the original WhatsApp shortcut. Accept the initial terms presented by the mod, enter the secondary phone number, and complete verification through SMS or a phone call. Never share a verification code with another person or enter a code requested through an unrelated website.
Give the application a distinct profile name, notification tone, and wallpaper so it is easy to distinguish from official WhatsApp. Customization can extend to calls and chat screens; for example, users exploring visual changes can find call interface ideas when comparing mod features.
Configure privacy and notifications carefully
After verification, review privacy controls before importing contacts or restoring any available data. Features such as hiding online status, disabling read receipts, locking individual chats, and limiting status visibility may work differently from official WhatsApp. Some options can also affect whether you receive messages or see activity consistently.
Android notification settings should be checked separately for each installation. Allow notifications, background activity, and battery access if reliable message delivery is important. Aggressive battery optimization can delay FMWhatsApp alerts, while unrestricted background activity may increase battery use.
Avoid enabling every experimental feature at once. Change one setting, test messages and calls, and then continue. If the app crashes, shows repeated verification prompts, or causes unusual battery drain, record the last setting changed and consider removing the mod after protecting any data you still need.
Keep both installations stable
Do not use the same phone number in both applications at the same time. WhatsApp may log one client out when that number is registered elsewhere, and unofficial modifications can face additional account restrictions. A separate number gives the two apps a clearer division and reduces accidental session conflicts.
Update FMWhatsApp only from a release source you recognize. Before updating, save important media and check whether the new build changes its package identity. An update that switches between clone and replacement variants can behave differently from a normal in-app update.
For safer long-term use, keep official WhatsApp as the primary account for sensitive conversations and use the mod for optional customization. Maintain backups, audit permissions after every update, and remove the APK if security warnings, intrusive advertisements, or unexplained account behavior appear.
Install FMWhatsApp beside official WhatsApp only after confirming the package identity, preparing a backup, and securing a separate phone number. Follow each verification screen carefully, test both apps with a few messages and calls, and keep the original installation intact until the parallel setup works reliably.
