How to Stop TMWhatsApp Notifications Waking Your Screen

TMWhatsApp can be customised far beyond the standard WhatsApp app, but some notification settings may cause the display to light up whenever a message arrives. This can be distracting at night, drain battery during busy group chats, and illuminate a bedside table every time a new alert comes through.

The fix usually involves two layers: TMWhatsApp’s own notification controls and Android’s system notification permissions. The wording differs between Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel and other Android phones, so a setting called “popup notification” on one device may appear as “heads-up notifications” or “wake screen” on another. For broader information about modified WhatsApp packages, the WhatsApp mods guide provides useful background.

Check TMWhatsApp notification controls

Open TMWhatsApp, tap the three-dot menu, and enter Settings. Depending on the build, notification options may be under Notifications, Privacy, Universal, or a separate Mods section. Look for controls labelled Popup notification, Floating notification, Heads-up notification, or Turn screen on for notifications.

Disable any option that explicitly wakes the display. Also switch off message previews if you want alerts to remain private on the lock screen. Some TMWhatsApp versions separate notifications for individual chats, groups, calls and media, so review each relevant category rather than changing only the general message setting.

If the app includes a High priority notifications option, turn it off as well. High-priority alerts can bypass normal notification behaviour and appear as floating banners. After saving the changes, send a test message from another account or ask a contact to message you while the phone is locked.

Adjust Android system permissions

Android can override the app’s preferred behaviour through its own notification channels. Open Settings, select Apps, find TMWhatsApp, and tap Notifications. Disable Pop on screen, Show as pop-up, or a similarly named option. On recent Android versions, message and group alerts may be listed separately, allowing you to silence only the categories that keep waking the phone.

Samsung users may also need to open Notification categories and change individual channels from Alert to Silent. On Pixel phones, check the lock-screen notification controls and disable Wake screen for notifications if that option is available. Menu names can vary after an Android update, so use the Settings search bar for “wake screen”, “pop-up” or “lock screen notifications”.

For Australian users commuting through Sydney or Melbourne, silent notifications can be particularly helpful on crowded trains, where a bright display may reveal private message previews. If you use a local carrier such as Telstra, Optus or Vodafone, carrier settings generally do not control screen wake behaviour; the relevant change is on the phone or inside TMWhatsApp.

Use silent alerts without losing messages

You do not need to block notifications completely to keep the screen dark. Set TMWhatsApp’s message channel to Silent while leaving vibration, notification icons or an unread count enabled. This lets you notice new messages later without turning every alert into a bright visual interruption.

Android’s Do Not Disturb mode provides another useful layer. Create a schedule for sleeping hours and allow calls from selected contacts if necessary. On some phones, disable “Override Do Not Disturb” for TMWhatsApp so urgent-looking app alerts do not break through the schedule.

  • Choose Silent instead of Alert for message channels
  • Turn off lock-screen previews for private conversations
  • Disable vibration if the phone rests on a hard bedside surface
  • Keep notification dots enabled when you want a low-distraction reminder

Avoid changing battery optimisation settings unless TMWhatsApp stops receiving messages altogether. Battery restrictions may reduce background activity, but they do not usually control whether the screen lights up. If you are transferring contacts between phones while changing devices, these contact transfer steps can help keep your address book organised before testing notifications again.

Check lock-screen and display features

A screen may appear to wake because of Always-On Display, edge lighting or a lock-screen animation rather than the TMWhatsApp alert itself. Temporarily disable Always-On Display and notification lighting to identify which feature is responsible. If the display stays dark afterwards, re-enable those features one at a time.

On Samsung Galaxy models, check Settings > Lock screen and AOD, then review notification style and edge lighting. On Pixel devices, look under Display and Touch or Notifications for options related to waking the screen. Some manufacturers use “Lift to check phone” or “Tap to check phone”, which can make a small movement look like a notification wake-up.

  • Disable Always-On Display during testing
  • Turn off edge lighting for TMWhatsApp
  • Review lock-screen notification style
  • Check Lift to check phone and Tap to check phone
  • Test with the phone face down and face up

Keep in mind that a phone may wake for incoming calls, alarms, charging events or emergency alerts even after TMWhatsApp is configured correctly. Test a normal text message separately from a voice call so the source of the screen activity is clear.

Consider privacy and unofficial app risks

TMWhatsApp is an unofficial modified APK, so its menu structure and reliability can differ between releases. Before installing a newer build, record your notification choices because an update may restore popup alerts or create new notification channels. The site information page explains the kind of version and feature coverage commonly associated with WhatsApp modification sites.

Download APK files only from a source you trust, verify the package before installation, and keep backups of important chats. Android may warn about installations from unknown sources, and those warnings should be treated seriously. Unofficial apps can request access to notifications, storage, contacts and accessibility features, so review permissions and remove anything the app does not genuinely need.

Australian users should also consider privacy expectations under the Privacy Act 1988, particularly when a modified app handles contact details and private conversations. The legislation does not make every unofficial app safe or unsafe by itself, but it is a reminder to limit unnecessary access and avoid exposing message previews in public places such as cafés, workplaces and shared households. Further APK-related reading is available through this Android download resource.

Once the in-app popup controls, Android notification channels and lock-screen features have been checked, send several test messages and confirm that the phone stays dark while alerts remain available. Save the working settings, review them after each TMWhatsApp update, and keep sensitive previews hidden whenever the device is used around other people.
