Browse allHide online status in FMWhatsApp and still read messages
FMWhatsApp lets Android users keep their presence private while continuing to receive and read incoming chats. The key is to treat online visibility and read receipts as separate controls: one hides your active session, while the other decides whether a sender learns that you have seen their message.
Set both according to your preferences and FMWhatsApp can show new messages without displaying your availability to contacts. You can also limit contact-specific exceptions, hide notification previews, and test the behaviour before relying on it for sensitive conversations.
Prepare the app and protect your chats
For Android users in Australia, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices are common choices, and official WhatsApp normally comes from Google Play. An unofficial APK requires Android’s “install unknown apps” permission, so check the source and avoid installers disguised as the official app.
Back up important chats before adding FMWhatsApp, and record its version number. An update can move menu items or reset privacy choices, especially when you move from one handset to another.
If you encounter an external download portal while searching for the installer, treat the listing as a lead rather than proof of authenticity. Compare the package name, version and release notes before installing anything.
Find FMWhatsApp’s privacy controls
Open FMWhatsApp and look for Chat, Privacy or a three-dot menu beside a conversation. A typical route is Settings > Chat > Privacy, although exact labels can differ between builds. Tap a contact’s name or information screen if the global settings do not show the relevant switch.
Look for controls labelled “Send online status”, “Show online status” or “Hide online status”, plus a separate option to send read receipts. If those controls are missing, confirm that the installed package really is FMWhatsApp and that you have a recent build rather than an older mirror.
Start with a global change, then test it with one contact you trust. Some versions also allow exceptions; an exception means that contact may still see your presence even when the setting is hidden from everybody else.
Turn off your active online status
Enable the online-status privacy switch, then check your contact list for any exceptions. The wording can be inverted, so verify the result rather than assuming a toggle labelled “online” means “visible”.
Hiding your status stops the client from presenting you as currently connected; it does not change the last-seen time already shown to other people. If you need that old timestamp removed too, look for a separate last-seen control.
For commuters in Sydney and Melbourne, this keeps your active status private on a crowded train without blocking notifications. Related clients can also be useful for comparison: the YOWA Message 2 details give context for a messaging-focused alternative, but each build’s privacy switches should be checked independently.
Keep read receipts under your control
Disable the outgoing read-receipt switch if you do not want a sender to know you have opened their message. You can still receive and read messages with this off. If you leave it enabled, a blue-tick read confirmation can also make you appear online in standard WhatsApp behaviour, undermining the separate hidden-status setting.
Notification previews are a different privacy layer. A message can reveal its sender on your lock screen even when your online status is hidden, so use Android’s FMWhatsApp notification settings to remove previews where appropriate.
In regional NSW, where coverage can be patchy, messages and status updates may arrive only after your phone reconnects. Avoid opening a sensitive conversation until the privacy switches are active; queued activity can otherwise update your presence during the next stable connection.
Compare privacy choices across mod families
FMWhatsApp is one of several unofficial clients tracked by WhatsAppMods.org. The Delta Yowa 1.5 notes help you compare release histories, but the options below are verification points rather than promises that every build behaves identically.
Settings to verify before you rely on them:
- Enable or disable online status for all contacts or selected people.
- Decide whether outgoing read receipts should be sent.
- Remove sensitive content from lock-screen notifications.
- Test the result with a second account you control.
Checks before replacing a working client:
- Match the version number with a trusted release listing.
- Avoid mirrors that repackage an older APK under a new label.
- Keep a recent chat backup outside the modified application.
- Recheck permissions and privacy switches after every update.
| Mod family | Online-status control | Read-receipt control | Key consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| FMWhatsApp | Dedicated hidden-status setting in supported builds | Separate outgoing-receipt switch | Useful for a focused privacy configuration |
| GBWhatsApp | Availability varies by release | Availability varies by release | Check the installed GB-family build |
| YOWhatsApp | Available in some privacy-focused builds | Available in some privacy-focused builds | Verify the exact YOWA release |
| DELTA YOWA | Confirm in the release-specific menu | Confirm in the release-specific menu | Compare the linked version notes |
| TMWhatsApp | Confirm in the installed version | Confirm in the installed version | Check settings after an update |
Treat every “varies” entry as a prompt to inspect that specific release, not as proof that a feature is missing. Version-specific menus and translated labels can otherwise send you down the wrong path.
Test the setup and use it responsibly
Use a second account or spare handset to send a test message, read it on FMWhatsApp, and check what the sender can see. Repeat the check for a contact-specific exception, then reopen the app to confirm that your choice has persisted.
FMWhatsApp is not an official WhatsApp release. Review requested permissions, keep the APK and any updates from a source you trust, and never share a verification code with someone offering help with installation.
Return to WhatsAppMods.org for the current release notes, install only the build you can identify, and test both privacy switches before relying on them for private conversations.
