GBWhatsApp gives Android users extra control over visibility, read receipts, status activity, and message behaviour. That can be useful when you want to limit what a particular person sees without deleting the conversation or blocking their number.
The exact menu names depend on the GBWhatsApp build and Android version installed. Modified APKs are developed independently from official WhatsApp, so an option described as “Custom Privacy”, “Contact Privacy”, or “Privacy Exceptions” may appear in a different location or may not be available at all.
For Australian users, this kind of control can suit everyday situations such as managing work messages in Sydney, family chats across Melbourne and Brisbane, or staying less visible during a commute. It should still be treated as a privacy feature rather than a complete security solution.
Check Your GBWhatsApp Build First
Before changing individual contact settings, open GBWhatsApp and check the installed version under the app’s Help, About, or Mods section. Privacy controls can change between releases, and a guide for an older build may refer to buttons that no longer exist.
Back up important conversations before updating or replacing an APK. A local backup may be stored on the phone, while cloud backup compatibility can vary because GBWhatsApp is unofficial. Keep in mind that restoring a backup between different mod families is not always reliable.
You should also verify where the APK came from. Modified WhatsApp packages can request broad permissions, including access to contacts, storage, notifications, and accessibility features. Use a reputable source, scan the file, and avoid versions that demand unnecessary permissions before allowing access to messages.
Find Contact-Level Privacy Controls
Open the conversation with the selected person, tap the contact name or three-dot menu, and look for an entry such as “Custom Privacy”, “Privacy”, “Hide Online”, or “Contact Settings”. In some releases, the same tools are located under GBSettings, followed by Privacy and Security.
Available controls may include hiding your online presence, freezing the last-seen time, disabling blue ticks, hiding the second tick, or concealing the typing and recording indicators. Apply only the options you need, then close and reopen the conversation to check whether the setting has taken effect.
Some builds apply these controls globally rather than to one person. If there is no contact-specific option, use WhatsApp’s status audience controls or a general privacy setting instead of assuming that a global switch affects only the chosen contact. The TMWhatsApp custom features coverage is useful for comparing how another mod presents similar personalisation tools.
Keep Communication Open Without Blocking
Privacy mode does not block messages. The contact can usually continue sending texts, calling, and viewing any content that remains available to them. Your selected indicators may simply stop revealing when you have read a message, started typing, or opened the app.
Remember that these controls do not make you invisible. A person may still infer activity from replies, group participation, profile changes, or a status update. If you hide read receipts, you may also lose some read-receipt visibility yourself, depending on the build and the particular option selected.
For status updates, open the Status privacy area and choose an audience such as “My contacts except…” or a custom list. This is often more predictable than a mod-specific contact switch. It is practical when you want colleagues in Perth or Adelaide to see work-related updates while excluding a particular contact from personal posts.
Test the Result Carefully
Use a second number or ask a trusted person to test the settings. Send a message, open it, type a reply without sending, and check whether the other device sees the second tick, blue ticks, typing notice, or recording indicator. Results can differ between Android phones and app builds.
Group chats require special care. A privacy setting for an individual conversation may not hide your activity inside a group, and members can still see messages you send there. Profile photos, About text, live location, and status updates also have separate visibility rules.
Australia’s Privacy Act and consumer expectations make responsible handling of personal information important, but a modified messaging app does not automatically provide compliance or confidentiality. Avoid using GBWhatsApp for sensitive workplace, financial, health, or client information, particularly if your employer has a formal communications policy.
Choose Practical Settings for Daily Use
A useful setup balances reduced visibility with reliable communication. Hiding typing and recording indicators can help when you need time to respond, while disabling read receipts may be inconvenient in a family emergency or a fast-moving work conversation.
Mod features can also create account and security risks. Unofficial clients may be detected by WhatsApp, may stop working after server changes, or may expose data through poorly maintained code. Release notes such as those discussed in the DELTA YOWA 7 update show why feature names and behaviour should be checked against the specific version installed.
Recommended Privacy Routine
- Check the installed GBWhatsApp version before following a settings guide.
- Use contact-specific controls only when the menu clearly identifies the selected person.
- Exclude individual contacts from Status privacy instead of relying on uncertain mod behaviour.
- Test blue ticks, typing indicators, last seen, and online visibility from another device.
- Review app permissions and remove access that is not needed.
- Keep official WhatsApp available for important or sensitive conversations.
| Privacy control | What it can hide | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Hide online status | Whether you are currently active | Replies and group activity can still suggest activity |
| Freeze last seen | Recent activity time | It may show an old time or behave differently across versions |
| Hide blue ticks | That you opened a message | Some builds apply the setting globally |
| Hide typing indicator | That you are composing a reply | The recipient may still see a later response |
| Status audience exclusion | Your status updates from a chosen contact | It does not hide profile details or group messages |
Set the chosen contact’s privacy options, test them, and revisit the configuration after every GBWhatsApp update. If the controls behave unpredictably, remove sensitive conversations from the mod and use an official, supported messaging app for information that requires stronger assurance.
